In the television series Blood Psalms, Ibokwe plays the character MaDlamini. MaDlamini is the nanny to Princess Zazi but holds many secrets. The character wields power behind the scenes of the Akachi kingdom, making her a significant figure in the series.

Breaking Gender Barriers

Albert made history with his debut TV role in the Blood Psalms series. He broke the gender barrier by becoming the first male to play a cis-female character on a South African mainstream series. This was a groundbreaking moment in South African television history as it was the first time a man played a female role without the gender switch being part of the storyline.

Theatre Performances

Apart from his work in television, Albert is also a theatre performer. He returned to the theatre in December 2020 and hosted a two-night performance called The Red Femicycle at the Soweto Theatre in Soweto on the 1st and 2nd of December. However, he had taken a break from theatre because it didn’t align with his line of work.

After his studies, he performed abroad since local theatres had not accepted his work. He quit performing and moved to galleries and warehouses. Albert created The Red Femicycle around 2017 – 2018. It was to comment on what was happening in South Africa and the world. He spends most of his time performing outside South Africa.
