Boitumelo Thulo, better known as Boity, is a multi-talented celebrity who has made a name for herself in the South African entertainment industry. She is a rapper, actress, television personality, businesswoman and model who has achieved many accolades and recognition for her work. She was featured in Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 list in 2019 for her contribution to the music and entertainment sector.

Early Life and Education

Boity was born on April 28, 1990 in Potchefstroom, North West. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, while her mother, Modiehi Thulo, worked as a nurse. She is an only child and has a close relationship with her mother.

Boity attended Monash University, where she studied psychology and criminology. However, she had to drop out of university due to financial difficulties. She then pursued a career in the entertainment industry by joining a casting agency. Her first appearance on television was in a Wimpy commercial in 2010.

Television and Film Career

Boity’s television career took off in 2011, when she hosted the YOTV educational show “Crib Notes”. She also co-hosted the SABC 1 The Media Career Guide Show with Thomani Mahlaba . Since then, she has hosted several other shows, such as SkyRoom Live, Ridiculousness Africa, Club 808, Zoned, Change Down, and Big Brother Africa.

Boity made her acting debut in 2012, when she starred as Mpho Bogatsu in the drama series Rockville. She played the role for all four seasons of the show. She also appeared in a comedy short-film called Dear Betty in 2014, where she played the titular character. In 2016, she had a minor role as Marie in the film Mrs Right Guy.

In 2021, Boity received a nomination for African Social Star at the 47th People’s Choice Awards.

Music Career

Boity ventured into rap music in 2017, when she performed as an opening act for the Migos Culture Tour in South Africa. She joined Nasty C on stage and rapped some of his songs .

In 2018, she released her first single “Wuz Dat”, featuring Nasty C. The song was a huge success and became the first single by a female rapper in South Africa to be certified platinum. It also won the award for Best Collaboration at the 2018 South African Hip Hop Awards .

In 2019, she released her second single “Bakae”, which also received positive reviews and airplay.

In 2020, she signed a record deal with Def Jam Africa and released her EP 4436. The EP featured artists such as Ricky Rick, Maggz, Yanga Chief and Riky Rick. The EP was nominated for Best Hip Hop Album at the 27th South African Music Awards .

In 2021, she announced her upcoming single “The yano way”, featuring Daliwonga and Felo. The song is expected to be released soon .

Boity is also a successful entrepreneur who has launched several businesses and products. She has her own fragrance line called Boity Pink Sapphire, which she collaborated with Halo Heritage to create. Boity has a passion for fashion and has collaborated with Sissy-Boy, a clothing brand, to create her own jean collection. In October 2021, Boity was hospitalised after she had a fight with Bujy Bikwa, a radio personality. The fight was allegedly over a parking spot at a mall. Boity suffered minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital the same day.
