Following the accident, Cherry suffered a concussion and is now adhering to the current return-to-play protocols set by the federation. These protocols stipulate a minimum recovery period of 12 days for such injuries. Given this timeframe, it was decided to conclude Cherry’s participation in the tournament on medical grounds.

Scotland commenced their World Cup campaign with an 18-3 loss to defending champions South Africa. Their next match in Pool B is against Tonga in Nice on 24 September. This will be followed by a match against Romania in Lille six days later before they face Ireland in Paris on 7 October.
