Fulu Mugovhani Biography
Fulu Mugovhani was born on 7th September 1990 in Thohoyandou, a town in the Limpopo province of South Africa. She pursued her passion for the arts by studying musical theatre at the Tshwane University of Technology, where her father was a faculty member. She completed her degree in 2011.
Personal Life
In her personal life, Fulu is married to Timi Modibedi, a DJ and record producer. The couple tied the knot in June 2018.
Career Journey
Fulu’s career took off in 2012 when she joined an international production of the musical The Lion King, produced by Hong Kong Disneyland. She played the role of Nala and moved to Hong Kong for a year and a half for the production and performances. In 2013, she made her television debut, acting in the mini-series Remix and the soap opera Scandal!.
Breakthrough and Accolades
Fulu’s breakthrough came in 2015 when she starred in the lead role of the movie Ayanda, directed by Sara Blecher. Her performance in the film earned her numerous accolades and nominations. She won the Best Actress in a leading role award at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards, the Best Actress in a feature film award at the 10th South African Film and Television Awards, and the Best Actress award at the 2015 Africa International Film Festival. She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Drama at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
Recent Works
In 2017, Fulu had a recurring role in the soap opera Isidingo on SABC 3. That same year, she starred in the soap opera Ring of Lies, playing the role of Rendani, a Musangwe fighter who pursues her dream of becoming a champion boxer, despite her conservative father’s desires. After a hiatus of a year, she returned to the screen in 2020, starring in the series Still Breathing, where she portrayed a mother and wife for the first time, and in the South African comedy film Seriously Single.

On Stage and Screen
Fulu has spoken about the differences between performing on stage and on screen, noting that each requires a different approach to projecting her voice.
