Lorcia Emmarsalda Cooper, known professionally as Lorcia Khumalo, was born on November 9, 1978, in Cape Town, South Africa. She is a multi-talented individual, excelling as an actress, dancer, and singer. Her career spans over two decades, starting from 1999 and continuing to the present day. She is married to Mandla Khumalo and they have two children together.

Early Life and Personal Details

Lorcia was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She is married to Mandla Khumalo and together they have two children, a daughter, and a son. In 2019, she faced a health challenge when she suffered from swollen lymph nodes in her thyroid. She underwent treatment which included carbon dioxide injections to reduce the puffiness around her eye.

Career Beginnings and Achievements

Lorcia’s passion for dancing was evident from a young age. At just four years old, her parents enrolled her in a dancing class. She competed in Latin American and Ballroom dancing competitions and won her first competition in the provincial championships for both Ballroom and Latin American dances at the age of five. At eight years old, she attended the Academy of Dance where she studied under renowned choreographer Debby Turner, who became her mentor and guide. She later joined the North West Arts Council’s Dance Academy where she had the opportunity to teach in her later years. At 19 years old, she won the FNB Vita Best Female Dancer Award.

Television and Film Career

Lorcia’s career in television and film began when she joined the SABC2 channel and became a Travel Xplorer presenter. During this period, she was invited to play the lead role ‘Cindi’ in the film “Hey Boy” directed by Andre Odendaal which was aired in 2003. In 2008, she was appointed as one of the judges in the dancing competition, “Dans! Dans! Dans!” aired on ykNET. In the same year, she became the choreographer and judge in the reality competition, ‘High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa’ aired on M-Net.

In 2017, she played the role of ‘Tyson’ in the fourth season of the Mzansi Magic show, “Lockdown”. In the same year, she played the supportive role ‘Marang’ in the film “Zulu Wedding”. In March 2019, she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the SAFTA awards for her role in “Lockdown 2”. In September 2020, she appeared in the Mzansi drama series “Housekeepers” with the role ‘Mkhonto’.
