Mthunzi Ntoyi Biography
Mthunzi Ntoyi, born on 3 March 1986 in Gauteng, South Africa, is a celebrated actor known for his diverse roles in the South African entertainment industry. Before embarking on his acting career, Ntoyi received his education from AFDA, The School for the Creative Economy.
Career in Acting
Ntoyi’s acting career, which began in 2012, has seen him take on a variety of roles in both films and television serials. He is best known for his performances in “Thula’s Vine”, “Intersexions”, and “Taryn & Sharon”. His talent extends beyond acting, as he is also a stand-up comedian and musician.
Ntoyi has appeared in several television serials, often in minor and supportive roles. These include “Khululeka”, “Montana”, “Intersexions”, “Stash”, “Single Galz”, “Sokhulu & Partners”, “The Wild”, “Scandal!”, “Home Affairs”, and “The Lab”. In 2014, he played the role of ‘Zola Yili’ in the SABC1 drama series “Montana”. His portrayal of ‘Waka’ in the Mzansi Magic soapie “Zabalaza” was so well-received that he reprised the role for three seasons.
Recognition and Awards
Ntoyi’s performance in “Montana” earned him a nomination for the Golden Horn Award for Best Actor in a TV Drama in 2014. He continued to garner recognition for his work when he began co-hosting the daytime comedic adventure game show for children titled “Disney Cookabout” in 2016. This show marked the first collaboration between The Walt Disney Company Africa and SABC. In the series, Ntoyi played the role of ‘Sous Chef Mthunzi’, demonstrating how to create simple and appetizing meals for a dynamic group of ‘cooktestants’. His work on “Disney Cookabout” led to a nomination for the Golden Horn Award for Best TV Presenter in 2018.

Film Appearances
In addition to his television work, Ntoyi has made appearances in both international and local films. These include cameo roles in “Mr. Bones 2: Back from the Past”, “Skyfall”, and “The Bang Bang Club”. In August 2020, he starred in the comedy film “Seriously Single”, co-directed by Katleho Ramaphakela and Rethabile Ramaphakela, which was released on Netflix on 31 July 2020.
