Thembi Seete Celebrates her 47th birthday today. Born on March 25, 1977, in Soweto, Gauteng province, Thembi has risen to prominence in South Africa, enthralling audiences with her multifaceted skills and motivational journey.

The Birth of a Star

Thembi’s ascent to fame commenced in 1993 when she became a member of the influential kwaito group, Boom Shaka. The band achieved immense success and was one of the most beloved musical acts in South Africa during its time. Thembi continued to perform with Boom Shaka until the group’s dissolution in 2000.

After Boom Shaka disbanded, Thembi launched a prosperous solo career. She unveiled her first solo album, “Lollipop,” in 2001. The album’s triumph paved the way for her second album, “S’matsatsa,” which featured popular solo songs like “Shayi Zandla” and “Mphate Kahle”.

Thembi’s acting career skyrocketed when she debuted in the film “Hijack Stories” in 2000. She subsequently joined the cast of the SABC1 drama series “Yizo Yizo” and contributed to its soundtrack with the song “Sure Ntombazana.” Thembi also became part of another SABC1 drama series “Gaz’lam,” where she portrayed the character “Lerato” until 2004.

Becoming a Household Name

Thembi’s acting career continued to thrive as she starred in various television series and movies. She portrayed the character “Gladys” in the Mzansi Magic telenovela “Gomora” from its inception in 2020 until its conclusion in 2023. In 2020, she also made an appearance in the Netflix original “Kings of Joburg”.

A Talent with Many Facets

In addition to her acting and music career, Thembi is also a beautician and owns the salon “Azuri”. In 2021, she was a guest judge in an episode of the seventeenth season of Mzansi Magic’s singing reality competition, “Idols South Africa.” In February 2022, Seete was announced as a judge for season 18 of “Idols South Africa,” and she reprised her role the following year in 2023.
