Sandy Mokwena Biography
Sandy Mokwena, a renowned South African actor, was born on June 26, 1949, in Soweto, South Africa. He was married to Grace Mokwena, and the couple was blessed with four children – three daughters, Ditshego, Keabetswe, Lebogang, and a son, Otsile Itumeleng.
Death and Legacy
Mokwena passed away on the morning of January 25, 2018, due to natural causes at the age of 68. His funeral service was held at the Grace Bible Church in Soweto on January 26, 2018. He was laid to rest at Heroes Acre in West Park Cemetery, Johannesburg.
Career Highlights
Mokwena’s acting career spanned from 1972 to 2018. He first gained recognition in 1972 when he performed in the stage play ‘Iphi Ntombi’ in the role of ‘Cappie’. He toured internationally with the play and continued to play the role until 1984. He then appeared in the television serial ‘Going Up’.

In 2005, Mokwena was selected for the role of ‘Bra Eddie Khumalo’ in the television soap opera ‘Scandal!’. The show became highly popular, and Mokwena continued to play the role until his death in 2018. A memorial service was held at the Scandal! studios in honor of the 17 years he spent at the serial. Meanwhile, he played the role of ‘Ken Mokoena’ in the serial ‘Yizo Yizo 1’.
Apart from ‘Scandal!’, Mokwena contributed to many television productions such as ‘Generations’, ‘Khululeka’, ‘Soul City’, ‘Justice for All’, and ‘Zero Tolerance’. He also worked in films including ‘Taxi to Soweto’ (1992), ‘The Principal’ (1996), ‘Dead End’ (1999), and ‘Scarback’ (2000).
