Slindile Nodangala Biography

Slindile Nodangala, born on June 23, 1972, is a South African actress who has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry. She is best known for her role as Ruby Dikobe, a shebeen queen in the soap opera, Generations, where she played the daughter of Sompisi, a character portrayed by Tiki Nxumalo. In addition to acting, Nodangala is also a singer and a voice-over artist. She has been active in the entertainment industry since 1989.

Personal Life

Nodangala’s early life was spent in Durban, where she was raised by her grandmother and her older siblings. Her grandmother, who passed away in 1997, played a significant role in her upbringing. As a young girl, Nodangala received training from Gibson Kente, a renowned South African playwright. She was also an active member of her church choir, showcasing her passion for music from an early age. Nodangala’s life took a challenging turn when she was involved in a car accident, which resulted in injuries to her leg and a three-month hospital stay. She is a mother to two children, born in 1996 and 2001.

Career

Music

Before her acting career took off, Nodangala was a backing vocalist for Stimela, a South African Afro-fusion band, between 1994 and 1995.

Acting

Nodangala’s acting career has been diverse and international. In 2001, she had an understudy role at the Lyceum Theatre in London. This opportunity allowed her to tour the world over five years, visiting places like China, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Malaysia, Beirut, and Scandinavia. During these tours, she met several personalities, including Prince Charles, Prince Edward, Tim Rice, Shirley Bassey, Elton John, and the Prince of Jordan.

Nodangala’s breakthrough role came in June 2011 when she starred in Generations, a role she played until December 2014. She also featured in the award-winning South African movie Izulu Lami in 2008 and The Lion King musical.

In 2017, she joined the cast of the now-cancelled e.tv soap opera, Rhythm City. Currently, she is playing the role of Nomvula Khubeka on the eTV daily soap opera, Scandal!. In 2022, she joined the cast of the soap opera The River, portraying the character of Nolwazi Dlamini, the sister of Lindiwe and Veronica Dlamini.
