High-Quality Education System if you study in Australia
Australia boasts a high-quality and globally recognized education system. Its universities consistently rank highly in international league tables, offering a wide selection of degree programs that are highly respected worldwide. Australian universities are also known for their excellent facilities and their consideration of each student’s individual needs. Graduates from Australian universities enjoy a high employability rate, and well-paying jobs are common as Australia relies heavily on skilled graduates to fill employment shortages.
The Appeal of TAFE Courses
One of the main reasons that Australia is a popular study abroad destination is its varied education system. There are two main types of tertiary education in Australia: Higher education, which includes universities and leads to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees; and Vocational Education and Training (VET), which includes Technical and Further Education institutions (TAFEs). TAFE is a government-run system in Australia that provides education after high school in vocational areas like beauty, design, childcare, accounting, carpentry, patisserie, IT, and many more.
Benefits of Studying a TAFE Course
While universities teach a broad range of theories, TAFE focuses on specific skills for a particular workplace. For example, a Certificate III in Carpentry teaches the skills and knowledge required to start a carpentry business or be employed as a carpenter. TAFE courses typically require less time to complete than university courses, lasting between six months and two years. They are often offered as apprenticeships or through part-time study. However, some leading universities offer TAFE courses as part of their core curriculum or as a pathway to higher qualifications.
Studying a TAFE course is a rewarding experience that has many benefits. TAFE has a practical approach to learning, so you will be getting hands-on experience and practice. Some other benefits of studying a TAFE course include industry insights and relationships, learning practical skills, course diversity, flexible learning options, work placement, lower entry requirements, and a pathway to university.
What TAFE Queensland and TasTAFE Have to Offer
TAFE Queensland and TasTAFE are two of the most popular TAFE institutions in Australia, offering courses that are currently on the Skilled Occupation list. TasTAFE is Tasmania’s largest registered provider of vocational education and training and has a long history of supporting students in achieving their career goals. TAFE Queensland is the largest, most experienced training provider in the state. They deliver practical, industry-relevant training across a range of industries from entry-level certificates to bachelor degrees at more than 60 locations in Queensland.
If you are interested in carpentry, joinery, patisserie or baking, then gaining these practical skills from TAFE Queensland will stand you in good stead. A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or Carpentry are both two-year courses that could qualify you for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485). This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with skills and qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations Australia needs. It lets you live, study and work in Australia for up to 18 months.
STAYING IN AUSTRALIA
If you find that you enjoy your time in Australia and would like to extend your stay, after spending some time on the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), you may want to look at longer term visa solutions, possibly even one that grants permanent residency.
Depending on your age, occupation, qualifications, work experience and English language skills, General Skilled Migration or Employer Sponsored visa would be the next step for you to consider.
